Service of process in Saint Lucia
Saint Lucia is comfortable working territory: English-speaking, a functioning registry in Castries, and roads that reach almost everywhere on the island in under two hours. Most instructions we receive here are corporate, matrimonial, or property.
What the Saint Lucia desk handles
- Personal service of summonses, complaints, petitions and subpoenas
- Corporate service at a registered office or place of business
- Service on directors, trustees, registered agents and IBC service providers
- Divorce, custody, maintenance and probate documents
- Debt, judgment and enforcement documents
- Property, title and villa-development disputes
- Yacht and charter matters around Rodney Bay and Marigot
- Trace and locate before service, where the address you hold is stale
- Court filing and document retrieval at the Castries registry
- Swearing of the Affidavit of Service before a Notary Public or attorney
If what you have is not on this list, ask. We will tell you plainly whether it can properly be served here.
Quarters, not street numbers
The island is easy to move around. The addresses are the part that needs translating into something you can act on.
Saint Lucia is divided into quarters — Castries, Gros Islet, Soufrière, Vieux Fort and the rest — and outside the towns an address is usually a community name and a landmark rather than a street and a number. That is completely normal here and perfectly serviceable locally; it simply cannot be typed into a mapping application from an office in the United States. Send us what you hold and we will work it out on the ground.
Castries and the Rodney Bay corridor hold most of the commercial work: registered offices, banks, hotel groups and the professional firms that act as registered agents. Bear in mind that a registered office is very often a law or accountancy practice, and serving the agent is not the same thing as serving your defendant. Tell us which of the two you actually need and we will say plainly whether the address achieves it.
The other frequent pattern is the absent owner — a villa or apartment at Cap Estate, Rodney Bay or Soufrière occupied a few weeks a year. Before anyone attends repeatedly at an empty property, let us establish whether the person is on the island at all.
If your address came from a company filing, a property record or a file older than a year, treat it as a starting point rather than a residence. Verifying it first costs a fraction of repeated attempts at the wrong door.
Timing, and what comes back to you
Castries and the north are usually a matter of days. Soufrière and the south-east add travel but not weeks. We tell you what is realistic before you commit, and we tell you promptly when an address turns out to be wrong rather than letting a file sit.
- A court-ready Affidavit or Certificate of Service, sworn locally
- A record of every attempt — date, time, address and who was spoken to
- A description of the person served and the circumstances of the handover
- Photographs of the location where lawful and practical
- Progress updates by email or WhatsApp while the matter is live
- A reasoned report if service cannot be effected, with what we established about the true address
- A single point of contact who knows your file, start to finish
Why instruct us in Saint Lucia
Because we read a quarter-and-landmark address the way a local reads it, we know which Castries addresses are registered agents rather than residences, and we will tell you which of those you are actually serving.
And because you get one named contact from instruction to sworn affidavit, with progress by email or WhatsApp in between — so you always have something to tell your own client.
English throughout, so nothing needs translating. Ask us about the correct service route before you send and we will confirm the appropriate method for your document.
