What the Saba desk handles

  • Personal service of summonses, complaints, petitions and subpoenas
  • Matters involving the medical school — students, staff and contractors
  • Service on small businesses and their owners
  • Divorce, family and probate documents
  • Debt, judgment and enforcement documents
  • Trace and locate, and confirming whether a person is still on the island
  • Corporate documents at a place of business
  • Swearing of the affidavit before a notary or attorney

If what you have is not on this list, ask. We will tell you plainly whether it can properly be served here.

Four villages, two thousand people, one road

Everything about a Saba instruction follows from its size.

There are no street addresses in the sense a US firm expects. A person is located by village and by name, and that is genuinely sufficient — if somebody lives on Saba, they can be found. The single road links the villages, and everyone knows everyone.

Which is also the difficulty. An approach that is loud, or that involves asking around openly, is common knowledge the same day. We work quietly and go to the person rather than to their neighbours.

A good proportion of instructions concern the medical school, and those addresses are short-term by nature — students and staff rotate. If your address came from an enrolment or employment record, let us confirm the person is still on the island before anyone flies in.

On procedure: Saba is a Dutch public body, so your document may need to be in Dutch and formal service may need to go through a deurwaarder even though English is what you will hear spoken. We tell you which applies before you send, then arrange it.

Access is by light aircraft or ferry from Sint Maarten and the schedule is limited, so an attempt is a planned trip rather than an errand. We price the travel once, up front, and will combine it with a Sint Maarten or Sint Eustatius matter where you have one.

Timing, and what comes back to you

Finding the person is usually quick. The schedule sets the date, and where formal service must go through a deurwaarder the timescale is that office’s rather than ours. We give you a realistic date, not an optimistic one.

  • A court-ready Affidavit or Certificate of Service, sworn locally
  • A record of every attempt — date, time, address and who was spoken to
  • A description of the person served and the circumstances of the handover
  • Photographs of the location where lawful and practical
  • Progress updates by email or WhatsApp while the matter is live
  • A reasoned report if service cannot be effected, with what we established about the true address
  • A single point of contact who knows your file, start to finish

Why instruct us on Saba

Because we will confirm the person is still on the island before you pay for a flight, and because on an island of two thousand people the first approach is the only one that is genuinely unexpected.

There is a full Dutch version of this information at nl.html, written rather than machine-translated.

English is the working language on the island and we report to you in English, but the paperwork may require Dutch. Ask us about the route and any translation requirement before you send; whichever channel applies, we handle it and you keep one point of contact.
