Documents we serve

Every item below has been served by this office for law firms, process serving agencies and individuals from around the globe and sworn to afterwards.

We welcome direct service of process from the general public who are acting on their own behalf with documents to serve. We are happy to guide you through the, sometimes challenging, process. We welcome your call via WhatsApp to give you guidance and for your own peace of mind. Choosing Caribbean Process Servers.

And if what you are holding is not on the list, do not assume the answer is no. Telephone us, or send it over, and we will tell you plainly whether it can properly be served where you need it and by what route. That conversation is free and we would much rather have it before you file than after a deadline has passed.

Not listed? Ask. Since 1988 there is very little that has not come across this desk at some point, and if it genuinely cannot be done we will say so straight away rather than take your money and report failure later.

What happens once you press send

You email the papers as a PDF and the file becomes ours. One named person takes it, works out the route, instructs the agent on the ground, oversees the attempt, swears the affidavit and sends it back to you — and keeps you told at every stage, in language you can forward to your client without editing it first.

That covers every Caribbean island, including the outlying jurisdictions such as Bermuda, the Bahamas and Trinidad and Tobago, and the places where communications are genuinely difficult, notably Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Our own agents travel between Aruba, Curaçao and Bonaire, between St Kitts and Nevis, and across the Bahamian islands, so an out-island address does not mean starting again with a stranger.

Scanned documents by email are perfectly sufficient — nothing needs to be couriered to us to begin. We do not sit on papers: depending on the location we aim to attempt service within two to three days of receiving them. Tell us your filing deadline at the outset and you will get an honest answer about what is achievable, not a reassuring one. If we think the date is at risk we would rather you heard it on day one, while you still have options.

Paralegals and legal assistants are the people we deal with day to day, and we know that most of your working week is spent being asked for an update. So you get progress by email or WhatsApp as things happen, a named contact who remembers the matter without being reminded of it, and a scanned copy of the sworn affidavit the moment it exists — before the original leaves us — so you can close the loop with your client the same day.

What the one fixed fee already includes

  • Multiple visits to the given address
  • Inland travel
  • Personal service, or service on a reasonable adult at the address
  • Any question you need asked — for example whether the respondent is currently serving in the military
  • Swearing of the Affidavit of Service
  • A signed Certificate of Service
  • The swear fee before a Notary Public, Justice of the Peace or attorney
  • A scanned copy of the sworn affidavit emailed to you before the original leaves us
  • Courier of the original sworn affidavit back to your office

Anything you are unsure about, just ask. Whether a registered agent address actually reaches your defendant. Whether a French or Dutch island needs a different channel before you file. Whether your money is better spent on a trace than on an attempt. Whether the form of proof your court wants is achievable in that jurisdiction. There is no charge for asking and no obligation to instruct us afterwards — we have looked after legal offices since 1988, many of them for decades, and we treat the people who send us work as family rather than as account numbers.

Large files. If you are in the United Kingdom and need to send bulky papers — lever arch files and the like — they can go to our London office at Studio 74, Ockway House, Stoke Newington, London N16 5SR, or to the Caribbean office at Tower Isle PO, St Mary, Jamaica. Please ask before sending.
